The ministers of sports in the 16 states of Germany have declared the prospect of the league resuming from mid or end of May in empty Stadia.
In a statement from the Sports Ministers after their meeting on Monday, they pointed out that resuming “in empty stadiums” from “the middle or end of May” is “justifiable” for the league.
They also highlighted the need for the league to “create and enforce the strictest hygienic and medical conditions, and monitor them with appropriate measures.”
This decision will be subjected to the ratification of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel who will be meeting with leaders of the 16 States in Berlin on Thursday. If given the go-ahead in May, the Bundesliga will be the first league in Europe to resume.
Just like others, the German league was suspended in March as a result of COVID-19.
