Juventus make Messi enquiry, An agent claiming to be working on Juventus’ behalf has made inquiries about the possible cost of signing Lionel Messi.

According to Skysports, the informant has also outlined suggestions to Messi’s entourage that explain how he should integrate into the Juventus team.

Nevertheless, sources in Italy suggested that, following the coronavirus pandemic, Juventus is in a tough financial position and is unlikely to be able to afford Messi.

Juventus players decided to waive March’s four-month salaries to help, and rumors suggested that either Cristiano Ronaldo or Paulo Dybala could be forced to sell this summer.

Lionel Messi failed a coronavirus test on Sunday morning at the training ground in Barcelona, club sources reported to AFP, therefore raising the likelihood that he will now miss the pre-season to force a transfer.

But La Liga gave a boost to Barca’s hopes of keeping Messi by reporting that his contract’s release clause, set at €700 million ($833 million), still applies.

Messi and his lawyers believe a separate clause means he should be allowed to leave for free this summer.

Without passing a coronavirus test, Messi will be unable to join team-mates for Ronald Koeman’s first training session on Monday, with the start of the new La Liga season less than two weeks away.

Messi was due for testing at 10.15am on Sunday but according to sources at Barcelona, he failed to show up at the Ciutat Esportiva.

The club’s captain and greatest ever player could now be punished with a fine and even a reduction in salary if the strike continues.

Luis Suarez – his best friend and strike partner – and Arturo Vidal were among those seen arriving for tests, despite both players being told they should find new teams as part of a planned clear-out this summer.

The meeting-up was an opportunity for Messi to make his first public appearance since Tuesday evening the burofax announcing his intention to leave arrived at the Camp Nou offices.

Instead, his absence gives a strong indicator of his willingness to make a compromise and how ugly the conflict could become now.

Participating in the pre-season program of the team could hurt his legal case if his transfer is finally settled in court.

Barcelona insist a clause included in Messi’s contract that allowed him to go for free this summer had to be activated by June 10 and the only way the 33-year-old will be allowed to depart now is via the payment of 700 million euros.

La Liga, who were always likely to take the side of the club, agree that Messi’s release clause is still valid.

“The contract is currently in force and has a ‘termination clause’ applicable if Lionel Andres Messi decides to activate the early unilateral termination of the contract,” La Liga said in a statement. Juventus make Messi enquiry

“In compliance with the regulations and procedure in these cases, La Liga will not de-register the player from the (Spanish football) federation unless they have previously paid the amount of said clause.”

But Messi’s lawyers believe the clause allowing him to leave for free does not apply to a particular date but to 10 days after the season ends.

Because of the pandemic last season has been extended to August, with the Champions League final only played last weekend, they maintain Messi ‘s offer to leave came within the agreed period.

His absence on Sunday shows that he is able to do whatever it takes to get out of the club he joined as a 13-year-old boy, and where he was most likely to continue to retire.

JAMB Admission Letters: JAMB Resumes Printing Of Admission Letters, Others

JAMB admission letters, JAMB resumes printing of admission letters, The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has lifted the moratorium on admission letter writing, and inter-university transfers among other items.

With the growth, the organization said, “All applications for the printing of letters of acceptance, inter-university transfers, condonation of invalid admissions and other processes for previous years that had been suspended will now be restored from Monday, August 31, 2020.”

Dr Fabian Benjamin, Head of Media and Public Relations at JAMB, made the announcement in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

He said, “To ensure that candidates who took the UTME prior to 2020, and who require certain corrections of their processes are accommodated, JAMB has lifted the suspension earlier placed on processes covering those years.

“Nevertheless, it is to be noted that most of these operations are only available at JAMB offices nationwide. Furthermore, as the Board is desirous of sustaining compliance with COVID-19 protocols, it maintains that 2020 UTME candidates desirous of these services will only be attended to through the Appointment Booking Platform which they could access online through their phones to secure a definite date and time for an appointment.

“The Board urged all State offices to ensure that all clients comply with all existing COVID-19 protocols. To ensure that candidates who took the UTME prior to 2020, and who require certain corrections of their processes are accommodated, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has lifted the suspension earlier placed on processes covering those years.

“As you may be aware, the need to prevent overcrowding at its Computer-Based Test Centres and other partner facilities, in line with extant COVID -19 protocols issued by relevant agencies, led it to allow candidates to seek corrections and other processes only through the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination or Direct Entry platforms. This measure had the intended effect of limiting the number of persons visiting the centres.

“As the government continues to ease the lockdown leading to the resumption of students in exit classes, the number of 2020 UTME candidates in need of one or another service in the various centers has fallen significantly, so the Board has decided to open its platforms to accommodate more requests, especially from previous years.

“Therefore, all requests for printing of admission letters, inter-university transfers, condonement of illegitimate admissions and other processes for previous years which had been hitherto suspended would now be restored from Monday August 31 2020.

“Nevertheless, it is to be noted that most of these operations are only available at JAMB offices nationwide. Furthermore, as the Board is desirous of sustaining compliance with COVID-19 protocols, it maintains that 2020 UTME candidates desirous of these services will only be attended to through the Appointment Booking Platform which they could access online through their phones to secure a definite date and time for an appointment.”

JAMB also urged all state offices to ensure that all clients comply with all existing COVID-19 protocols.

44,000 people missing in Nigeria And Other Part Of Africa

44,000 people missing in Nigeria And Other Part Of Africa

44,000 people missing in Nigeria And Other Part Of Africa, The International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC) has reported that around 44,000 people across the African continent are listed as missing, with almost half of them children.

Nigeria, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, Libya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Cameroon make up 82 per cent of Africa’s missing caseload, the ICRC said in a statement issued Wednesday.

“As August 30 marks the International Day of the Disappeared, nearly 44,000 people across Africa are registered as missing with the ICRC at a time when restrictions put in place to curb Covid-19 create new challenges in searching for missing people,” the statement read.

According to the ICRC, about 45 percent of the cases were children.

“This caseload is a drop in the ocean to the true scale of people whose family members are searching for them,” said Sophie Marsac, the regional advisor for the missing and their families in Africa for the ICRC. “Conflict, violence, migration and climate shocks have not stopped separating families in the pandemic, but our work to find missing people has become even harder,” Marsac added.

“Families of the missing often suffer psychologically and face economic and legal challenges. The tragedy of missing people is a humanitarian crisis and one that cannot be forgotten as the world focuses on fighting the Covid-19 pandemic,” she added.

The ICRC also stressed that despite the increase in new cases, Covid-19 has created new challenges in searching for missing people as it is no longer possible to gather people in large groups to listen for names or look through photos.

“Many countries suspended domestic travel between states or provinces, making it more difficult for searches to be done over wider geographic areas. Access to places of detention, where the ICRC would look for cases, is suspended in some places to limit the risk of Covid-19 exposure,” the ICRC said.

It, however, stressed that digital tools have proven to be effective amid the limitations that Covid-19 brings.

The ICRC further called on authorities to acknowledge the tragedy of missing people and the impact that it has on families and to do everything in their power to prevent people from going missing, take measures to search for those who are missing, and provide information to families on the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones.

More than 3,300 people are registered with the ICRC in Ethiopia, the majority of whom are women and children, accounting for about 64 percent, it was noted.

The ICRC also stressed that inter-communal clashes and migration are the largest drivers behind missing caseload in Ethiopia today, in which more than 250 cases were opened so far in 2020.

Nigeria which reported nearly 23,000 people is ICRC’s largest caseload of missing people in the continent. More than 360 cases have been opened with the ICRC in Nigeria in the first half of 2020, it was noted.

The ICRC’s teams in South Sudan are also currently searching for more than 5,000 people, most of whom went missing because of inter-communal violence and conflict.

Women and children make up three-quarters of the more than 3,200 people registered as missing with the ICRC in Somalia, it was noted.

More than 500 missing people have been registered by the ICRC’s teams in the DRC in 2020, bringing the total of missing persons to 1,800.

Most of them went missing because of violence and conflict. The ICRC also stressed that conflict and migration are the causes for the missing caseload in Libya, which reports more than 1,600 people. The ICRC has more than 1,500 open cases of missing people in Cameroon, with more than 420 registered in 2020.

The ICRC stressed that the figures represent those cases documented as of the end of June, and they do not represent the total number of people missing in Africa.
