JAMB Puts Candidate’s Registration On Hold

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has put on hold the registration for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) which was billed to commence Thursday.

A statement by the Boards Head of Media and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin in Abuja said the delay follows the exam body’s effort to ensure that candidates have access to its registration app for the 2021 UTME/DE and also finalise work on its pin vending process before the take-off of the exercise.

The exam body advised prospective candidates to follow up on advertisements for the 2021 registration exercise to understand the steps involved and the actual date of the registration exercise.

”To be sure all processes are completed before the commencement, the Board didn’t place its advertorial as it was yet to complete the process of a smooth pin vending and candidate access to the registration app for the 2021 UTME/DE.

”This delay is caused by some unforeseen circumstances occasioned by our determined effort to have a NIN integration.

This challenge is being resolved and once that is done, all processes shall commence.

The management of Osun State University has clarified the reason it prohibited cooking in the school hostels across the six campuses.

During a press briefing at the institution’s multi-purpose hall at the main campus, Osogbo, on Monday the Vice-Chancellor of the Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola said the decision was for the safety of the students.

The VC explained that cooking is prohibited due to some dangers that might emanate from gas or any cooking materials.

Recounting some of the fire explosion from students’ cooking in some Nigerian institutions, “104 people each with a gas cylinder in one complex that’s minacious.

It also affects negatively the maintenance of the structure.” the VC explained.

“In the house of residence, it never done in Universities, with the fact that people are doing it somewhere should not make it right.

“We’ve had negative different experiences from the past from UI, OAU, BUK, fire explosion arisen from student cooking.

That’s why we conclude not allowing students from cooking in the school hostels.

“We encourage eateries to relocate to school facilities and prepare meals for students, we assure the quality of the meals and regulate the price to N200 to N250 per meal.

“Osun State University did not start as a residential institution and I know the challenges we have faced over the years, due to ritual killings, cultism, students being manhandled, that’s why we decided to go residential.

We started building hostels with our little savings.

Now, each of our six campuses has 104 capacity hostels which we compulsory for fresh students to provide security, to expose the students to the true university cultures.

We took over some private hostels because we couldn’t meet the capacity.” Prof Labode asserted.

JAMB Cautioned UniAbuja, And Other Universities Over Ilegal Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has condemned the admissions purportedly being conducted by some universities, including the University of Abuja (UniAbuja).

Fabian Benjamin, Head of Public Affairs, in a statement, said the universities were issuing admission letters to candidates without recourse to the board.

The spokesman noted that admissions that have not been proposed, approved nor accepted on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) are null and void.

Benjamin said asking hapless candidates to pay acceptance fees for such admissions that had not been processed through CAPS amounts to illegality.

“Such admissions are illegal, unacceptable and offensive to extant rules and regulations guiding admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria as approved by the Federal Ministry of Education and provided on CAPS.”

JAMB recalled that it instituted CAPS in 2017 as an automated platform designed to ensure that admissions are transparently done to protect the interest of all Nigerians desirous of tertiary education.

The board advised all candidates not to accept any admissions that are not provisioned on CAPS.

The statement said candidates who have not accepted and printed their admissions letter on CAPS should not pay any acceptance fee as any admission done outside CAPS is illegal.

The Use of Email For UTME Has Been Banned By JAMB – Direct Entry Riegistration

Direct entry registration, the use of email for UTME has been banned by JAMB

Candidates will no longer be able to register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry using email, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) (DE).

JAMB registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, stated this while speaking with journalists on Tuesday evening.

According to Oloyede, email would only be needed at the successful completion of the registration exercise by candidates to access information on the examination.

He said, “As from Thursday, April 15, 2021, candidates will no longer be required to provide any email address during registration.”

Candidates can either use the mobile app to access their profile during or after registration. They can also send the word email (space then the email address) on his /her registered phone to 55019.

He responded by saying that a candidate’s cell phone is now the only big tool for undertaking all of the registration processes.

Speaking further, Oloyede said the Board has phased out the use of cash for any transactions in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres owned by JAMB, saying only use of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards is now allowed.

While saying the move is to frustrate the antics of touts who hang around JAMB CBT centres as well as prevent illegal charges, Oloyede said candidates that are only keen on using cash can visit privately owned centres for their registrative and other activities.

Earlier, a final year student of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), Adegoke Justina, told newsmen how she was lured to hand over her email details to a cyber cafe staff, who posed as staff of the Board.

Adegoke had visited the JAMB CBT centre in the Kogo-Bwari area of Abuja, to rectify issues with her admission when she was accosted by the young man, who promised to help do necessary applications, only for him to be issuing threats and demanding money days later after taking over the student’s email address.

Moses Peter, the cyber cafe operator, nabbed by police over the incident, however, identified the perpetrator of the crime as David Ahmad, a student of Auchi Polytechnic, who sometimes works in the cafe.

  1. First, find out the amount that is requiring to be paid as an acceptance fee for the admission that has been offered to you.
  2. Note that if you do not pay acceptance fee, it means that you have rejected the admission offered to you and in that case, you will lose the admission slot to someone else.
  3. The next information you need to find out is school fees for your course or faculty, so that you can get the required fees ready as soon as possible.
  4. Note that it is advisable to pay your school fees immediately after paying your acceptance fee, to avoid being hindered from being matriculated (officially enrolled and added to student database) on time.

  9. After you have completed all the necessary payments and registration, it is a good idea to get your faculty and departmental lecture timetables as soon as possible so that you can start attending lectures.
  10. Attending lectures will set you up for a smooth academic career .
  11. Finally, don’t hesitate to ask lecturers and administrative staff in your new school questions and seek advice from them.
  12. It is better to be seen as naive and ignorant, than it is to make unnecessary mistakes and waste time doing things wrongly.
  13. Also, try to make friends with some of the best students in senior classes and higher levels, so that you can start getting the best tips for navigating and thriving in the school from them.

All the best!
